The first step in the process is to cut out the descriptions of the holidays (see bottom of this post for the printable). Students fold it in half to make a door that opens to the description. Together we identify the holiday being described and write its name on the front of the door. Capital letters are needed of course! Let's squeeze in the review of proper nouns! Next we sequenced these holidays starting with January. (Don't be alarmed when some of your third graders have forgotten the months of the year..been there and I felt myself begin hyperventilating. It's scary but nothing a quick review won't fix!! Sing the months of the year song. They might still remember it from preschool. ) We glue these strips in this order on a large piece of construction paper.
